Sakiskes Brewery

Small Lithuanian brewery named for its village, known for traditional baked ale.

Their story

Sakiškių alus takes its name from the village of Sakiškės in Lithuania, a country with one of Europe's most distinctive farmhouse brewing traditions.

The brewery is best known outside Lithuania for keptinis, an old local style of baked ale, including a version brewed with Birrificio Italiano, a craft brewery near Milan.

How it's made

For its keptinis, the mash is baked in a wood-fired oven for at least four hours. The heat drives off water and caramelizes the mash, so even pale malts give dark, toffee-like flavors. The beer is then top fermented into a dark ale of about 6.3% ABV.

Why we carry them

We love stocking beers you will not find many other places, and Lithuanian baked ale is a real rarity. Try it if you like dark, malty beers.
