Their story

Sauz was started in 2023 by Troy Bonde and Winston Alfieri while they were students at the University of Southern California. They saw pasta sauce as a sleepy aisle and set out to wake it up with bolder flavors.

The brand is based in California and sells online and through grocers such as Whole Foods, Erewhon, and Central Market.

How it's made

The sauces start with extra virgin olive oil and California-grown tomatoes and chili flakes, with locally sourced spices. The founders say they turned down a cheaper tomato supplier to protect quality. The lineup includes Hot Honey Marinara, Summer Lemon Marinara, Creamy Calabrian Vodka, and Wild Rosemary Marinara.

We want to lead with flavor and innovate on flavor, but we will not sacrifice quality in doing so.
Troy Bonde, co-founder, to FoodNavigator (2024)

Why we carry them

We like having a jarred sauce that tastes like someone actually thought about it. The Hot Honey Marinara makes a weeknight pasta feel like a treat.
