Their story

SelvaRey was founded in 2014 by Seth and Mark Gold, with Robert Herzig as a co-owner. They built the brand around rum from Panama, where the climate and soil suit sugarcane well.

Musician Bruno Mars came on after launch as a co-owner and creative partner, and he stays involved in tastings, packaging and the brand's advertising. The range runs from a white rum to chocolate and coconut expressions and an aged Owner's Reserve.

How it's made

The rum is distilled on a single estate in Panama, which gives the brand control over each step. The white is a blend of three- and five-year-old rums aged in recharred ex-bourbon barrels and charcoal filtered. Master blender Francisco "Don Pancho" Fernandez selected the Owner's Reserve, a blend of 15- and 25-year-old rums finished in Cognac and PX sherry casks.

Panama has a climate and terroir that's almost perfect for sugarcane cultivation.

Why we carry them

We like SelvaRey White for daiquiris and the Chocolate for sipping over ice after dinner. Both are easy to love.
