Their story

Stranahan's began with an unlikely meeting. In 1998 Jess Graber was helping fight a fire at George Stranahan's barn. Stranahan, who had founded Flying Dog Brewery, soon went into business with him.

They distilled their first batch of whiskey in Denver in 2004 and bottled it in 2006, using wash from Flying Dog in the early years. The distillery began making its own wash in 2009 after moving to a larger space.

Proximo Spirits bought Stranahan's in 2010, and the whiskey is still made in Colorado.

How it's made

The mash is 100% malted barley, sourced from Colorado growers, mixed with water from the Eldorado spring outside Boulder. The whiskey ages in new charred oak barrels, and the original bottling is a blend of whiskeys aged six to nine years.

Why we carry them

Stranahan's is a good way to taste how American single malt differs from Scotch, rich and a little sweet from the new oak. Try it neat with a splash of water.
