Sunbear

Lightly sparkling coconut water with no added sugar.

Their story

Sunbear was co-founded by Danielle Krueger, a Long Island native who trained at the Institute of Culinary Education in New York and cooked at restaurants including Loring Place before working as a personal chef. She struggled to drink enough water, wanted to love coconut water, and never quite liked the taste.

So she set out to make one she would drink. Working with a formulator and tasting new samples week after week, she and her partner spent about a year on the recipe before launching. Sunbear is now sold in more than 100 stores in the US.

How it's made

Sunbear starts with coconut water and adds carbonation and fruit flavor, which took careful testing since coconut water is harder to carbonate than plain water. The launch flavors were strawberry, watermelon and lemon-lime, each with no added sugar.

Why we carry them

Sunbear is a nice pick when you want something cold and fizzy that is not soda. The coconut is gentle and the fruit keeps it bright.
