Their story
Teerenpeli started as a beer restaurant on Vapaudenkatu in Lahti, Finland, opened in 1994 by Anssi Pyysing. A year later a tiny brewery with a 60-liter kettle opened nearby, and its first beer was a lingonberry dark lager.
In 2002 the family company began distilling malt whisky, making Pyysing one of the early pioneers of Finnish whisky. Brewing and distilling moved to a larger site in Lahti's Lotila district in 2009, and Teerenpeli remains a Finnish family business.
How it's made
Teerenpeli makes its whisky from malted barley in Lahti and matures it in barrels, with an output of about 100,000 liters a year. The same team also brews beer and runs restaurants, so the whisky grows out of a working brewery.
Why we carry them
We like pouring Teerenpeli for whisky lovers who think they have tried everything. It is a chance to taste single malt from a country few people associate with whisky.
