Tempus Fugit Spirits
Forgotten liqueurs and bitters brought back from historical recipes.
- Founded by
- John Troia, Peter Schaf
Their story
Tempus Fugit Spirits was started in California in the early 2000s by John Troia and Peter Schaf, two drinks historians with a deep knowledge of old cocktails, spirits and liqueurs.
Their goal was to bring back spirits that had disappeared from bar shelves and recapture flavors that bartenders had only read about. The range now covers classic cordials like creme de cacao, creme de menthe and violet liqueur, plus Gran Classico Bitter, a quinquina and a fernet.
How it's made
Each Tempus Fugit spirit starts with a historical recipe, and the team works to get as close as possible to the original taste. Their creme de banane, for example, follows an 1884 French recipe and uses Caribbean-grown bananas.
Why we carry them
We reach for Tempus Fugit when a classic cocktail calls for a liqueur that tastes the way it used to. The creme de cacao and violet liqueur are bar cart essentials.
