Their story
Terralta is made by Felipe Camarena, a third-generation tequila maker from one of the best-known families in the Jalisco highlands. In 2011 he founded the brand at El Pandillo, the distillery he built on family land in Jesús María.
Felipe is known as an inventor as much as a distiller. He designed his own agave shredder, nicknamed Igor, a mechanical stand-in for the stone tahona called Frankenstein, and a rooftop system to collect rainwater for production.
How it's made
Terralta uses estate-grown agave that is hand-harvested, with the bitter stems trimmed away. Fermentation relies on a natural yeast the Camarena family has used for more than 80 years, and the water comes from a deep well. No diffusers or additives are used, and the brand was verified additive-free in 2020.
Why we carry them
Terralta tastes like cooked highland agave and very little else, which is exactly what we want from a blanco. It is a great value for how carefully it is made.
