Their story

The GlenAllachie is a Speyside distillery now in independent hands. In 2017 longtime Scotch whisky maker Billy Walker bought it from Chivas Brothers along with business partners Trisha Savage and Graham Stevenson, and the trio have since built it into a name of its own.

The distillery was designed in 1967 by William Delme-Evans, his fourth distillery, and built by Mackinlay McPherson, the distilling arm of Scottish & Newcastle. It ran its first spirit in 1968. The building was laid out to be almost entirely gravity-fed, and a recent project adds vapor recompression and solar power to cut its energy use further.

How it's made

Spirit moves through the distillery largely by gravity, a design choice that saves energy. Under Billy Walker the team bottles single malts across a range of ages and cask styles, and an ongoing decarbonization project is set to roughly halve the site's energy demand.

Why we carry them

GlenAllachie shows what an experienced blender can do with a distillery of his own. We like it for whisky drinkers who want bold Speyside character at a fair price.
