Their story
The Illusionist Dry Gin began in 2015 with two longtime friends, Max Muggenthaler and Tim Steglich, who hatched the idea in Munich's Glockenbachviertel neighborhood. They now make the gin in Hohenbrunn, just outside the city.
The gin is known for its party trick: it pours a deep blue, then shifts to a soft pink once tonic hits the glass. Behind the show is a carefully built organic recipe and a bottling strength of 45 percent.
How it's made
An organic wheat spirit is distilled with 16 organic botanicals, including citrus peel, cardamom, ginger, lavender, chamomile and cranberries, using both a glass-cooled still and a copper pot still. After distillation a blue flower is steeped in the gin for color and floral notes, then removed, and the gin is bottled without chill filtering. The flower reacts to acid, which is why tonic turns the drink pink.
Why we carry them
This is the gin we pour when we want a G&T that gets a reaction. It is fun to watch and has a bright, floral, citrusy taste to back it up.
