Their story

The Secret Garden Distillery grew out of a family project on the edge of Edinburgh. In 2012 the family took on a derelict plot of about seven and a half acres at Lothianburn and turned it into a working herb garden, eventually home to some 600 kinds of plants.

The gins were first sold under the name Old Curiosity before the business rebranded as the Secret Garden Distillery. In 2025 it was named UK Gin Producer of the Year by the IWSC and Club Oenologique.

In July 2026 the distillery entered creditors' voluntary liquidation after failing to secure new investment, and all of its staff were made redundant. Bottles already on shelves are among the last from this producer.

How it's made

The botanicals are grown and harvested on the distillery grounds rather than bought in. Herbs and flowers from the garden, such as elderflower and jasmine, go straight into small-batch gins, including seasonal releases like Wild Gin and Winter Gin.

Why we carry them

We think these gins are a rare chance to taste a single garden in a glass, and since the distillery has closed, any bottle you find is worth grabbing.
