Their story

The Wiseman comes from Kentucky Owl, a Bardstown bourbon name that C.M. Dedman founded in 1879. The original distillery shut down during Prohibition and the brand sat dormant for nearly a century.

A descendant of the founder revived Kentucky Owl in 2014, and its small releases built a following quickly. Stoli Group bought the brand in 2017.

The Wiseman, launched in 2021, was meant as a more widely available bottle and was the first Kentucky Owl bourbon made with Bardstown Bourbon Company.

How it's made

Master Blender John Rhea combines a four-year wheated bourbon and a four-year high-rye bourbon from Kentucky Owl with older Kentucky bourbons aged about five and a half and eight and a half years. It is bottled at 90.8 proof.

Why we carry them

We like The Wiseman as an easy way into a name usually known for scarce bottles, with caramel up front and a little spice behind it.
