Their story
Château Tour des Gendres is the home of the de Conti family in Ribagnac, in the Bergerac hills of southwest France. The family came from Italy and settled in the Périgord in 1925 to farm, and a later generation moved to Ribagnac in the early 1980s to focus on vines.
Today Luc de Conti runs the estate with his cousin Francis. They are widely regarded as one of the leading names in Bergerac, and since 2000 they have also bought grapes from a handful of neighboring growers to keep up with demand.
How it's made
The family farms about 55 hectares across sites including Les Gendres and Le Grand Caillou, certified organic since 2005. They have replanted older Bergerac varieties such as small-berried Muscadelle and Malbec, making whites and reds that speak of the region rather than chasing Bordeaux.
Why we carry them
We point people to Tour des Gendres when they want Bordeaux-style wine with more character for the price. It is a great way to discover Bergerac.
