Their story
Tozai is a sake line brewed in Kyoto and brought to the United States by Vine Connections, an importer focused on sake and South American wine. The name means "east-west," a nod to its role as a bridge between Japanese brewing and American drinkers.
The range is built for people new to sake as much as for longtime fans, with clear names and labels. Snow Maiden, a junmai nigori, is the best known, alongside Living Jewel junmai, Well of Wisdom ginjo and a plum sake called Blossom of Peace.
How it's made
The sakes are brewed in Kyoto's Fushimi district using Fushimi water, one of Japan's most prized sources for brewing. Styles range from unfiltered nigori to clean junmai and ginjo, and several are sold in cans and small bottles.
Why we carry them
We often suggest Snow Maiden to anyone trying sake for the first time. It is creamy, a little fruity and great with spicy food.
