Their story
Conca Tre Pile is a Barbera d'Alba from Poderi Aldo Conterno in Monforte d'Alba, one of the best-known names in Barolo. Aldo Conterno left his family's Giacomo Conterno estate in Serralunga in 1969 to start his own, building up vineyard holdings in the Bussia area.
Aldo died in 2012, and his sons Giacomo, Franco and Stefano have carried on his balanced approach that blends tradition with some modern touches. The estate is best known for its Barolo, including the Granbussia Riserva.
How it's made
Conca Tre Pile comes from a single vineyard in the estate's Bussia holdings, where vines grow on calcareous clay and marl. The wine is aged partly in barrique, giving a richer, more concentrated Barbera than the lighter traditional style.
Why we carry them
We like this Barbera as a way to taste a top Barolo house without Barolo prices or the long wait. Open it with braised meats or mushroom risotto.
