Their story

In the village of Obertrum, just outside Salzburg, beer has been brewed since 1601. The Sigl family took over the brewery in 1775, and today it is run by Josef C. Sigl, the eighth generation of the family to hold the keys.

For most of its life Trumer Pils was a local beer, poured almost entirely within the state of Salzburg. That changed when a sister brewery opened on Fourth Street in Berkeley, run with The Gambrinus Company from 2004, giving Bay Area drinkers a fresh Austrian-style pils brewed close to home.

In 2026 the U.S. side of the business changed hands. Firestone Walker took over brewing Trumer Pils for the American market at its Paso Robles brewery, and the Berkeley brewhouse wound down operations. The Austrian brewery in Obertrum remains with the Sigl family.

How it's made

Trumer Pils is brewed to the German purity law with Czech Saaz, Hallertau Perle and Spalt Select hops. The Obertrum brewery uses its own patented open fermentation process, and the beer is aged about six weeks before packaging. The result is light in body, lively in carbonation, and around 4.9% ABV.

Our job now is simple: protect what makes it special and make sure this great beer continues to reach American drinkers.

Why we carry them

We reach for Trumer when we want a pilsner that is bright, dry and easy to share. It is a good benchmark for what a clean, well-made lager should taste like.
