Their story
Varichon & Clerc was founded in 1901 in Seyssel, a small town on the Rhône in the Savoie, near the Alps. The house built its name on fresh, easygoing sparkling wines from this mountain corner of France.
Since 1996 it has been part of the Boisset family of wineries, with its commercial office in Nuits-Saint-Georges in Burgundy.
How it's made
The wines are made by the traditional method, with the second fermentation in bottle, in a light and fresh style. Blends draw on local Savoie grapes such as Altesse, Molette and Jacquère, along with Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc and Maccabeu.
Why we carry them
Varichon & Clerc is our pick for a bottle of bubbles that does not need a special occasion. It is crisp, friendly and great with salty snacks.
