Their story

Véronique Günther-Chéreau grew up among the vineyards of Saint-Fiacre, near Nantes, the daughter of Bernard Chéreau, who pushed Muscadet in Paris in the 1950s and steered the family away from bulk wine. She took over winemaking around 1990 and now works alongside her daughter Aurore, who joined in 2011.

Together they run three estates in the Loire's Muscadet country: Château du Coing, set where the Sèvre and Petit Maine rivers meet, Château de la Gravelle and Grand Fief de la Cormeraie. The family's ties to wine in the region reach back centuries.

Véronique handles export and promotion while Aurore leads the cellar. About half of what they make leaves France.

How it's made

Each estate sits on its own soil, gneiss at Château du Coing, gabbro at La Gravelle and clay and schist at La Cormeraie. Yields are kept low and most vines are farmed organically. In the cellar the aim is a light touch, with long aging on the lees, up to 24 months or more for the top wines.

Why we carry them

We think these wines show how much depth Muscadet can have when it is given time on the lees. Try one with oysters, or set an older vintage next to a young one.
