Their story
Vietti has been making wine in the hilltop village of Castiglione Falletto, in the heart of Barolo country, since 1873. The family lost its vineyards in the 1930s and spent decades buying them back, a task finished by 1989.
Its modern chapter began in 1960, when Alfredo Currado married Luciana Vietti and took over the cellar. Their son Luca, an enologist, joined in the 1990s and became known for Barolos that sit comfortably between traditional and modern styles.
In 2016 the Krause family of Iowa, owners of the Kum & Go convenience store chain, bought Vietti, including the brand, the winery and its vineyards, and added more land in top sites across Castiglione Falletto, Monforte d'Alba and Serralunga d'Alba.
How it's made
Vietti works its own vineyards across several of Barolo's best villages and builds its wines around Nebbiolo, from the Langhe Nebbiolo Perbacco to blended and site-specific Barolos. Fruit from the estate's own sites goes into both the everyday bottles and the top wines.
Two great families are coming together
Why we carry them
We think Vietti is a great way into Barolo, from the approachable Perbacco up to the serious single bottles. It is worth laying down a few for a special dinner.
