Their story
Villa di Corlo is a family-run estate in Baggiovara, just outside Modena, set around a historic villa. Since 1998 it has focused on the two things Modena is known for: Lambrusco and traditional balsamic vinegar.
The wines include several Lambrusco Grasparossa di Castelvetro bottlings, a Lambrusco di Sorbara and a traditional-method sparkling Lambrusco, along with still reds. Up in the villa's attics, barrels of balsamic slowly age the way they have in Modena homes for generations.
How it's made
The estate uses only its own grapes, grown on clay soils at the foot of the hills and on hillside sites up to about 320 meters. Alongside Lambrusco it grows Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chardonnay, and it has run on solar power since 2012. The Traditional Balsamic Vinegar of Modena PDO is aged in the villa's attic.
Why we carry them
We like Villa di Corlo because one family covers both sides of the Modena table, the fizzy red and the balsamic. Chill the Lambrusco and serve it with salumi and Parmigiano.
