Their story

Wadaman is a family business in Osaka that has worked only with sesame for five generations. Takehiro Wada, the fifth-generation head, carries on a trade his family started in 1883.

That single focus has led them deep into the seed. Since 2010 the company has worked with more than 200 Japanese farmers to bring back heritage sesame varieties, alongside a range of organic roasted seeds, pastes and seasonings.

How it's made

Seeds are carefully selected and cleaned, then roasted in batches over several steps to draw out flavor and aroma. Some are grown through Wadaman's own domestic cultivation projects with Japanese farmers, and much of the line is organic. The roasted seeds become whole seeds, smooth pastes, oils and furikake.

Why we carry them

Once you try freshly roasted sesame like this, the supermarket kind tastes flat. We love the black sesame paste stirred into dressings or drizzled over ice cream.
