Their story
Walkers began in 1898 when 21-year-old Joseph Walker borrowed £50 and opened a bakery in Aberlour, a village in Scotland's Speyside. He set out to make the best shortbread he could, and the business soon moved to a larger shop in the village.
His sons joined in the 1930s, and his grandchildren followed, opening more shops and starting to ship abroad in the 1970s. The company is still run by the Walker family and still bakes in Aberlour, where it moved into its own purpose-built bakery in 1975.
How it's made
The classic shortbread uses four ingredients: flour, butter, sugar and salt. The family says the recipe has not changed since Joseph's day. Everything is baked in Aberlour.
Why we carry them
Walkers is the shortbread we measure others against: rich, crumbly and simple. It is hard to beat with a cup of tea.
