Their story

WhatIF Foods is a Singapore company started by five food scientists and industry veterans, led by Austrian-born food technologist and CEO Christoph Langwallner. They spent six years studying hardy, overlooked crops that can grow in tough conditions and still feed people well.

The brand launched in 2020 with instant noodles and soups built around the Bambara groundnut, a drought-tolerant legume it calls BamNut. It has since added shakes and other products made with what it calls Future Fit crops.

How it's made

The Bambara groundnut grows in poor soil and dry climates without fertilizer or pesticides, and WhatIF works directly with farmers to keep its supply chain short. Its noodles are steamed and air-dried rather than deep fried, giving them less fat and more fiber and protein than typical instant noodles.

Why we carry them

WhatIF is our answer for a quick bowl of noodles that still feels like real food. We like learning about the crops behind each pack.
