Their story

Who Gives A Crap was started in Australia in 2012 by Simon Griffiths, Jehan Ratnatunga and Danny Alexander. Through their work with humanitarian groups, they learned that about two billion people have no access to a toilet, and they decided to sell toilet paper to help change that.

The first bulk order was crowdfunded, helped along by Griffiths sitting on a toilet for 50 hours to raise money. The company has since grown well beyond Australia into the United States, the UK and Europe, and it gives half its profits to sanitation and clean water projects.

How it's made

The flagship rolls are made from recycled post-consumer paper, like old office and school paper, and there is also a line made from bamboo. Everything is wrapped in paper rather than plastic.

There's still two billion people without access to a toilet, that's why we donate half our profits.
Simon Griffiths, co-founder and CEO, to CNBC (2021)

Why we carry them

It is hard to feel good about buying toilet paper, but Who Gives A Crap manages it. The wrappers are cheerful enough to leave out on the shelf.
