Widow Jane
Brooklyn whiskey proofed with limestone mine water from the Hudson Valley.
- Founded by
- Daniel Preston
- Based in
- Brooklyn, New York
Their story
Widow Jane was created by Daniel Preston, an aerospace engineer who also ran Cacao Prieto, a bean-to-bar chocolate factory in the same Red Hook, Brooklyn, building. The distillery still sits on Conover Street in Red Hook.
The whiskey takes its name from the Widow Jane Mine in Rosendale, New York, about 100 miles north of the city, whose water is used to proof it. In 2022 Widow Jane was acquired by Heaven Hill.
How it's made
The team distills with selected non-GMO grains, then proofs the whiskey with naturally filtered water from the Rosendale limestone mine, which is rich in calcium and magnesium. A head distiller and blender oversees each release in Brooklyn.
Why we carry them
Widow Jane is a New York whiskey with a real sense of place, from the Brooklyn stills to the Hudson Valley water. We like it for sipping slowly.
