Their story
Wigle Whiskey was started by the Meyer and Grelli family in Pittsburgh's Strip District, where production began in 2011 and the distillery opened to the public in 2012.
The name honors Philip Wigle, a local distiller convicted of treason in 1794 for his part in the Whiskey Rebellion and later pardoned by George Washington. Wigle was family run until 2022, when it was bought by Nutting Corporation, the company of Pittsburgh Pirates owner Bob Nutting.
How it's made
Wigle calls itself a grain-to-glass distillery. It sources nearly all its ingredients from within about 100 miles of Pittsburgh, mills its own grain and distills on site, making rye and wheat whiskeys, bourbon, gin and more.
Why we carry them
Wigle is a great introduction to Pennsylvania rye with a fun bit of history behind it. We like their range for both sipping and cocktails.
