Their story
Wilderness Poets is run by John Bannerman and Mika Kakizaki. The name came to them in 2006 on a trip to the Enchanted Valley on Washington's Olympic Peninsula.
The pair started out in Portland, spent time on a rural homestead near Mount St. Helens, and by 2016 had settled in Ashland, Oregon, where they run a small production space. They make nut and seed butters along with trail mixes and pantry staples, often featuring Northwest ingredients like Oregon pumpkin seeds and local hazelnuts.
How it's made
Their butters are cold-ground in small batches, which keeps the nuts and seeds at lower temperatures than standard roasting and grinding. Many are made from raw, organic ingredients, and they source regionally where they can, such as hazelnuts from the Pacific Northwest.

Why we carry them
We like how clean and simple these taste, with nothing added to get in the way of the nuts themselves. A spoonful of the hazelnut butter is a good argument for slowing down.
