Their story
Wohlfert Craft Distilling is a family operation on the Wohlfert property in the Clearview area of Snohomish, Washington. John Wohlfert, an engineer at Microsoft, opened it in 2022. His wife, Karen, a master baker, helps shape the flavor of each batch.
The distillery grew out of family history. The Wohlferts made spirits during Prohibition, and John worked backward from that old family recipe to bring it back. The lineup includes Starter moonshine, High Beam vodka, Clutch coffee liqueur and an apple liqueur, plus a jalapeño vodka called Hot Tail Pipe.
How it's made
The moonshine starts with a mash of corn and sugar fermented with yeast, following the family's reworked recipe. Everything is made in small batches on site, with a tasting room open on weekends or by appointment.
Why we carry them
We like a distillery with a family story this direct, and a sense of humor in its names. The coffee liqueur is an easy pick for an after-dinner drink or a homemade espresso martini.
