Their story
Woody Creek Distillers started in 2012 in the Roaring Fork Valley outside Aspen. Patrick Scanlan, a retired aerospace engineer, his wife Mary, and fellow engineer Mark Kleckner set out to make vodka from potatoes they grew themselves.
The Scanlan Family Farm planted its first Polish Stobrawa potatoes in 2012, and the harvest still sets the rhythm of the year: when the potatoes are in, vodka season ends.
Over time the distillery added gin, whiskeys made with Colorado grain, brandy and rum, while keeping the farm-first approach that started it.
How it's made
Potatoes are grown on the family farm and a nearby ranch, hand-dug each fall and distilled fresh during harvest. Everything runs through custom copper stills built by CARL in Germany. The whiskeys use Colorado grain from long-term farm partners.
We treat vodka like a vintage product
Why we carry them
We reach for Woody Creek when someone says vodka has no flavor; the estate potatoes give it a soft, earthy body worth sipping on its own.
