Their story

Woon is Keegan Fong's tribute to his mother, Julie Chen Fong, known to customers as Mama Fong. She was born in Shanghai, grew up in Hong Kong and came to Los Angeles in the 1960s, teaching herself to cook the dishes of home.

Keegan started Woon as a pop-up in 2014, then left his marketing job in 2019 to open a restaurant in Los Angeles. A second location followed in Pasadena.

Along the way the family began bottling the sauces and condiments from the restaurant as a line of Homestyle Goods, so people could cook with those flavors at home.

How it's made

The Homestyle Goods line grew out of the restaurant kitchen and is built on Mama Fong's recipes. The same condiments used on the menu are packaged for home cooks and sold at the restaurants and nationwide.

Why we carry them

We like Woon because it comes from a real family table, and a spoonful is an easy way to give weeknight noodles or rice more character.
