Yolele
West African fonio and flavors, sourced from smallholder farmers.

Their story
Yolélé was co-founded by Pierre Thiam, the Senegal-born, James Beard Award-winning chef behind Teranga in New York, and Philip Teverow, who spent thirteen years leading the Dean & DeLuca brand. The two met in Brooklyn in the early 2000s.
The company's best-known product is fonio, an ancient West African grain, and its larger goal is to bring lasting income to farming communities in the region while sharing West African food with home cooks.
How it's made
Yolélé buys from smallholder farmers and processors in West Africa and invests in climate-smart farming. Fonio is a quick-cooking, drought-tolerant grain that grows with little water or fertilizer.
Why we carry them
We like Yolélé fonio as a fast, nutty alternative to couscous or quinoa that cooks in a few minutes.
