Their story
Baltimore Spirits Company was started in 2015 by Max Lents, Ian Newton and distiller Eli Breitburg-Smith, a trio once described as a musician, a philosopher and an anthropologist. They set out to make spirits that reflect their city's creative, slightly offbeat character.
The distillery moved into its current Baltimore home in 2018. Its flagship is Epoch Rye, and the range has grown to include Shot Tower gins, the Baltamaro line of amari and a series of unusual apple brandies.
How it's made
The rye is fermented with beer yeast in wooden fermenters and distilled in handmade copper pot stills, a setup drawn from Scottish and early American practice. It ages in 53-gallon barrels with a lighter char. The apple brandies use Maryland apples, including smoked and pechuga-style versions.
Our featured pick
Baltamaro - Vol. 3 Coffee Amaro (750ML)
$40.00
Chocolaty and familiar, but carries with it unexpectedly earth tea notes. Familiar but excitingly new to any Amaro enthusiast.

Why we carry them
We like Baltimore Spirits for a rye with real character and a team that loves to experiment. The apple brandies are worth a look if you want something different.
