Their story

Barton traces back to a distillery founded in 1879 in Bardstown, Kentucky, a town at the center of bourbon country. Today the site is known as the Barton 1792 Distillery, a sprawling campus of more than fifty buildings, most of them rickhouses filled with aging barrels.

The company changed hands over the decades. Canandaigua Wine Company, later Constellation Brands, bought Barton in 1993, and in 2009 it was sold to the Sazerac Company, which owns it today. The distillery makes well-known bourbons such as 1792, Very Old Barton, and Kentucky Tavern.

How it's made

Barton distills its whiskey on site in Bardstown and ages it in charred new oak barrels across its many rickhouses. The bourbons are bottled under several labels, from everyday pours to small batch and higher-proof releases.

Why we carry them

We think Barton bourbons are some of the best values on the Kentucky shelf. Very Old Barton is a dependable pour for sipping or for an Old Fashioned.
