- Controguerra, Abruzzo
Their story
Bossanova is the project of two friends, Andrea Quaglia, a manager, and Nat Colantonio, a musician, who share a love for the land of Abruzzo. The winery takes its name from the Brazilian music style, a nod to Nat's other life.
Their vineyards sit in the hills of Controguerra in the province of Teramo, between the Apennines and the Adriatic. Cool nights, sea breezes and big swings in temperature shape the fruit on about four hectares of vines.
How it's made
The vines, mostly native Montepulciano and Trebbiano, are farmed on biodynamic principles. Fermentations start on their own with native yeasts, with no additives and only a little sulfur at bottling. Instead of wood, the wines rest in glass-lined cement tanks or clay amphorae.
Why we carry them
We love Bossanova for showing how fresh and lively Abruzzo's classic grapes can be. These are easygoing bottles with a lot of personality.
