Their story

El Guapo is a New Orleans cocktail company led by Christa Cotton. When the El Guapo trademark became available in 2017, she formed the New Orleans Beverage Group and bought the original recipes and brand.

Production started in a leased commercial kitchen in Gretna, moved to a small space on Tchoupitoulas Street, and later to a 32,000-square-foot historic building on Gravier Street in Mid-City. The range now includes more than ten core bitters, seasonal flavors, syrups and cordials, sold in 49 states and several countries.

How it's made

Cotton spent two years developing a brewing process that makes bitters without the high-proof grain spirit most producers use. Batches are brewed in 300-gallon tanks, bottled in glass with paper labels and sealed with red wax instead of plastic.

Why we carry them

We like El Guapo because the bitters work in both cocktails and zero-proof drinks. A few dashes of the Creole style is an easy upgrade to a home Sazerac.
