Their story

jcoco is the work of Jean Thompson, who invested in Seattle Chocolate in the early 1990s, took over the company in 2001 and launched jcoco in 2012. The bars are made at the company's factory in Tukwila, just south of Seattle.

From the start, jcoco was built around giving. A portion of every bar's profits goes to food banks in the United States, reflecting Thompson's view that chocolate is food and should help feed people.

How it's made

The chocolate comes from a small maker in Lima, Peru, and is paired with whole fruits, nuts and spices sourced as close to home as possible. Jean Thompson says the bars rely on non-GMO, kosher and sustainable ingredients, and the inclusion-heavy process takes eight labor-intensive steps.

Why we carry them

We like jcoco for its unusual flavor pairings, like black fig and pistachio in dark chocolate, and the fact that each bar does a little good.
