Their story

JusTea is a family business in Vancouver. Paul Bain, who goes by Tea Captain, runs it with his wife Sally and his parents, including his father Grayson, who had spent time studying how businesses affect communities in Kenya.

The idea took shape on a family trip to Kenya in 2012, where Paul got to know local tea farmers and decided he wanted to build something with them. JusTea went on to help shape new rules that opened a specialty tea market in Kenya for small cottage factories.

The company is known for its Purple Leaf teas, made from a purple-leaf tea plant that is still fairly new to Kenya.

How it's made

Farmers pluck the leaves, which are processed at a small cottage factory in Kenya that JusTea set up with guidance from a Darjeeling tea expert. The finished tea is blended and packed by the family in Vancouver. The purple tea turns bright purple when you add lemon.

I knew it had to be about tea because I really connected with these Kenyan tea farmers.

Why we carry them

We like how directly JusTea connects the cup to the farmers who grew it. Try the purple tea with a squeeze of lemon and watch it change color.
