Their story

Liber & Co. was started by Chris Harrison and brothers Adam and Robert Higginbotham, friends from the University of Texas at Austin who liked mixing drinks with herbs from their backyard garden. The idea took shape in late 2011, after Chris found a house-made tonic syrup at a cocktail bar in Kansas and began experimenting with his own.

In 2012 they made their first batch of about 20 cases in a hotel kitchen in Lawrence, Kansas, and named the company after Liber, the Roman god of wine and freedom. By 2014 all three had moved to Austin, where they now brew, bottle and ship from their own facility.

How it's made

The team sources ingredients directly, including grapefruit from the Texas Rio Grande Valley, ginger from a Peruvian cooperative and cinchona bark from Latin America. With no playbook for making cocktail syrups at scale, they borrowed techniques from breweries, wineries and chocolate makers and built their own process. The syrups skip artificial flavors and corn syrup.

Why we carry them

We keep Liber on hand for anyone who wants bar-quality cocktails, or great alcohol-free drinks, at home. The grenadine and spiced tonic are favorites to start with.
