Their story

Neuhaus started in 1857, when Swiss immigrant Jean Neuhaus opened an apothecary in the Galeries Royales Saint-Hubert in Brussels. Over time the shop moved from medicine to sweets.

In 1912 Jean Neuhaus II created a chocolate shell with a soft filling, the first Belgian praline. A few years later, in 1915, he and his wife Louise Agostini designed the ballotin, a gift box that kept the pralines from being crushed in paper bags. The company is now owned by the Belgian holding company Compagnie du Bois Sauvage.

How it's made

All Neuhaus chocolates are still made in Belgium, at the company's workshop in Vlezenbeek near Brussels. The chocolate is UTZ certified, and the range centers on filled pralines, truffles and bars.

Why we carry them

A box of Neuhaus is a classic gift, and it is fun to share something from the people who came up with the praline in the first place.
