Their story
OWYN, short for Only What You Need, was started by husband and wife Jeff Mroz and Kathryn Moos, both former professional athletes. Mroz captained Yale's football team and later played in the NFL, while Moos played soccer and hockey at Brown before playing soccer professionally in Europe.
The pair set out to make a plant protein that people with food allergies could drink without worry. Halen Brands acquired the young brand in 2017, and in 2018 OWYN expanded from ready-to-drink shakes into powders and bars.
How it's made
The shakes and powders combine pea protein with organic pumpkin seed and organic flaxseed for a complete amino acid profile and some omega-3s. The ready-to-drink shakes are made without the top eight allergens and carry 20 grams of plant protein each.
