Their story
Portland Syrups is run by Chris Onstad and Dan McLaughlin in Southeast Portland. In 2012 they grew tired of mixers that were too sweet, full of artificial flavors and wrapped in wasteful packaging, so they started brewing their own at home.
The kitchen has grown, but the method has stayed the same, only in somewhat bigger batches. The lineup covers cocktail staples and fruit syrups, including a grenadine made with bartender Anders Erickson.
How it's made
Fruit purees, herbs, spices and botanicals are sorted, weighed, then chopped, juiced or toasted and steeped. The liquid is sweetened with organic, fair trade cane sugar, heated to a set temperature and hot-filled into glass bottles one at a time, with labels applied by hand.
