Their story

Rod & Hammer's is a partnership between Rod Cegelski, a California surfer, and Hamish Marshall, an Australian who once worked as a jackaroo on the outback stations. The two named their whiskey house after their nicknames and set up in San Luis Obispo on California's Central Coast.

The company grew out of SLO Brew, the craft brewery Marshall took over in 2010, and launched its spirits line as SLO Stills in 2019. The ocean that links the founders' two home countries became the brand's signature.

How it's made

The team brings its bourbon and rye down to bottling strength with purified, desalinated Pacific Ocean water, a step they call Cut With The Pacific. The core whiskeys are aged at least two years in new American white oak, and limited releases include a six-year single barrel bourbon bottled at cask strength and hand numbered.

This limited release is both bold and refined, embodying the essence of Rod & Hammer

Why we carry them

We like a California whiskey with a real sense of place, and the ocean-water proofing gives you a good story to pour alongside it.
