Their story

Spicewalla comes out of Chai Pani, the Asheville, North Carolina, Indian street food restaurant started by self-taught chef Meherwan Irani. The restaurant's kitchen had always roasted and ground its own spices, and in 2017, after a food distributor asked about them, the team turned that habit into a company.

James Grogan, Chai Pani's original chef de cuisine, went on to run the spice business. What began with Indian staples now spans around 150 products, from single spices and herbs to custom blends made for chefs and brewers.

How it's made

Spicewalla keeps its process simple: spices are roasted, ground and blended in small batches in Asheville with modest equipment, a convection oven and a couple of grinders, and the blending is done by hand. Doing this work in-house keeps the focus on freshness and aroma.

It's really simple. We're roasting and grinding our own fresh spices.

Why we carry them

Fresh spices make a real difference, and Spicewalla's tins prove it. Swap out an old jar from the back of your cabinet and taste the change.
