Their story
Kathleen King started baking at 11, selling cookies at her family's farmstand in Southampton on Long Island. She ran an earlier bakery, Kathleen's Cookies, from 1980, and after losing that business she started over in August 2000 under a new name, Tate's Bake Shop.
The little shop in Southampton grew into a national brand known for its thin, crunchy chocolate chip cookies, and it added a gluten-free line in 2013. In 2014 King sold a majority stake to the Riverside Company, and in 2018 Mondelez International bought Tate's for about $500 million. It now runs as a stand-alone business within Mondelez, and the original Southampton store is still open.
How it's made
Tate's cookies are baked to be thin and crisp rather than soft. Production moved from the original shop to a 40,000-square-foot bakery in East Moriches, New York, and a dedicated gluten-free kitchen opened in 2013.
Why we carry them
We love these for anyone who likes a cookie with snap. They are buttery, crisp and very hard to stop eating.
