Their story

The Bitter Housewife is the work of Genevieve and Dan Brazelton. In 2012 Genevieve was writing a lifestyle blog and came up with a bitters recipe for an old fashioned. Dan thought it was good enough to sell, and the name came from a joke Genevieve made along the way.

The couple moved from San Francisco to Portland, Oregon, in 2013, and the business grew from there. In 2016 they bought the cocktail syrup brand Raft, and they now run both under their company, Improper Goods.

How it's made

The bitters started in the Brazeltons' home kitchen and are now made in small batches in a commercial kitchen. They use whole, real ingredients, peeling fresh oranges for the orange bitters. The aromatic blend leans on dried cherries, ginger, and baking spices.

We use all real ingredients.

Why we carry them

A few dashes of the aromatic bitters make a noticeably richer old fashioned. The cardamom is a fun one to try in sparkling water.
