Their story
Traverse City Whiskey Co. was started by Chris Fredrickson and college friends Jared Rapp and Moti Goldring, whiskey fans who built their first bourbon on a recipe patented by Fredrickson's great-grandfather, a chemical engineer at Dow in the 1920s and 30s.
They released their bourbon in 2012, working with another distiller before they had their own stills. In 2015 they opened a tasting room in a 1929 electrical substation in downtown Traverse City, and the lineup has grown to include rye and cherry whiskeys that nod to the region's famous orchards.
How it's made
The company began by having its family-recipe bourbon made by a partner distiller, then expanded into its own distilling space in Traverse City. Its cherry editions draw on northern Michigan's cherry country, and the range includes straight bourbon and rye.

Why we carry them
We like how this whiskey carries a sense of place from Michigan's cherry country. The cherry edition makes a memorable Old Fashioned.
