Their story
Arcane Distilling works out of Bushwick, Brooklyn, where it began in 2017 as a largely one-person project built on an unusual idea: start with a finished, hop-forward beer and distill it into whiskey.
The brand was later revived under CEO Brian Thompson, who came from Telegraph Brewing in California, and distiller Phil Morgan, formerly of Kings County Distillery. Its releases have included Alpha, made from an IPA, a collaboration with King's County Brewers Collective, and Imperial, distilled from an imperial stout.
How it's made
Arcane brews beer with its own yeast, then distills it under vacuum at about 86°F so the hop aromas and malt flavors survive. The spirit then sits with toasted oak staves in a pressure vessel for a few days to pick up color without much wood flavor. The team says it can go from grain to bottle in about three weeks, with no traditional barrel aging.
We are literally taking beer and turning it into whiskey.
Why we carry them
If you love IPAs and are curious about whiskey, this is the bottle that connects the two. We think it makes a great conversation piece on a home bar.
