Their story
Ballyhoo comes from the Connacht Whiskey Company, started by three Americans and one Irishman who wanted to bring pot still whiskey back to the West of Ireland after more than a century. Their distillery sits on the River Moy in Ballina, County Mayo, a few miles from the Atlantic.
The name is a cheer: a shout of triumph over a rival, or a toast between friends after a hard-won victory. Ballyhoo launched in the U.S. in 2018.
How it's made
Ballyhoo is a four-year-old grain whiskey made mostly from corn with a little malted barley. While Connacht's own stocks mature, the team sources whiskey from other Irish distillers, then finishes it on site in used Portuguese port barrels and bottles it by hand.
Why we carry them
We like Ballyhoo as a gentle, approachable Irish whiskey. The port finish adds a soft, round sweetness that works neat or in a highball.
