Their story
Bénédictine was created in 1863 in Fécamp, a port town in Normandy, by wine merchant Alexandre Le Grand, who worked out the recipe with help from a local chemist. He built the grand Palais Bénédictine in Fécamp, which still houses the distillery.
The company was taken over by Martini & Rossi in 1986 and became part of Bacardi in 1992. In the 1930s it introduced B&B, a drier blend of Bénédictine and brandy.
How it's made
The recipe uses 27 flowers, berries, herbs, roots, and spices, and only 21 of them have been made public. The botanicals go through several separate distillations, and the distillates are then blended and aged before bottling.
Why we carry them
We keep Bénédictine on hand for classic cocktails like the Vieux Carré and the Singapore Sling. A small pour after dinner is lovely too.
