Their story
Bodega Frontio was founded in 2016 in Fermoselle, a village in Zamora province on the Duero River where Spain meets Portugal. Its founder, Thyge Benned Jensen, is a Dane who left a career at Maersk Oil to make wine in one of Spain's least-known corners.
The Arribes is a rugged landscape of steep gorges and small, scattered vineyards, many planted long ago. Frontio works with these old plots and local grapes, bottling wines such as Follaco, Arbusto and Deldoma.
How it's made
The vines range from about 10 to 100 years old and grow on gravel, quartz and granite, farmed organically with cover crops. Local grapes like Juan Garcia, Rufete and Bruñal for reds and Doña Blanca for whites ferment with native yeasts, with little extraction and low sulfites, giving light wines around 11 to 12 percent alcohol.

Why we carry them
We love finding wines from places most people have never heard of, and the Arribes is one of them. Frontio's reds are light and fresh, easy to drink slightly chilled.
